Blog 6 – We’re Stranded in Birdsville

We’ve been back in Birdsville for 9 days now and are here for a few more yet while we wait for the Birdsville Track to open.  We could be lucky as they are assessing it again tomorrow. Unfortunately we have missed out on our desert adventure, everywhere out here is too water logged to allow us to head that way.  This will have to wait until another time.

We are still hoping to make Farina and their underground bakery before they shut for the year which is around the 21st July.

Washing, drying and packing the hocker tents
Cleaning the mud off the floor tiles

We have had a busy week, offering to help out with cleaning and packing for the BRB crew.  Cold, and muddy but it kept us out of mischief.

Birdsville at Sunrise
The Local Cafe
The Old Pub
Onslo – The Famous Beetle that crossed the desert to Mt Dare and back
Windmill on the Diamantina River
Paver Art

In our down time we wandered the town and took a walk to Pelican Point. We may of supported the pub, bakery, cafe and roadhouse more than once or twice as well – lol!

Pelican Point was a short walk out on The Common and well worth the walk.  Heaps of bird life on a subsidiary of the Diamantina River.  There is a pontoon for those who enjoy the cold muddy water lol!

We also visited the old hospital museum.  Times sure have changed. There is no longer a hospital, the RFDS support the town.

Our evenings are spent around the fire enjoying good company, bevies and the best stars.

There are much worse places to be stranded, I’m sure.

Stay tuned………
