Blog 23 – Zip Zip Hooray!

Our shows are finished for the year so it’s time for some catch up on chores and relax with family and friends, because this hectic life doesn’t already have enough fun and frivolity 🤪

Fred dropped me to Tan’s, we were headed off on a “girl’s trip” leaving Fred to bach it.  What a blessed life he leads 🤣 but in actual fact, he had plenty of chores to do.  We are still trying to get the roadworthy on De Trailer, when first built it was not issued a vin number and this is becoming a bit problematic.  It wasn’t all work and no play, he did manage to get a couple of rides in and in style on his fancy bike, the Basso which had been dug out of storage and delivered from Rockhampton this week. He also managed a trip to Narracan Falls.

Tan and I however, were doing it tough in the Otways.  We stayed in Beech Forest at Redwoods Rest Cabins and it was so serene and beautiful.  Sitting out on the deck, eating our dinner, a white deer casually wanders into the back yard, sauntering away.  Minutes later a cheeky fox crosses the yard – unreal!  To top the evening off we went for a walk in the gardens and along the trail at the back of the property.  To continue on our discovery of wildlife we came across some crazy alien looking slugs, which after research are an introduced foreign slug which is invasive.  Well they did look freaky!

Next day was big for me, we were going zip lining.  A minor detail I should share here is that I’m not a fan of heights but I had been talking myself up or just ignoring the fact that this was getting real. Next thing I know, I’m strapped into a harness heading to the first zip line with a big smile plastered on my face, taking big breaths.  Of course we had to climb up a spiral staircase to get to the first platform, not something I had considered earlier – good one Gayle!  It was time, I was third off; squat, lean back, lift one leg, then the next and they literally shove you off.  I may of squealed the F bomb, apologised quickly and readied myself for the next one, I got more confident each time well at least feeling that I wasn’t going to fall to my death anyway 😂. In total we did 5 zip lines and 2 hanging bridges and I finished feeling a sense of achievement and exhilaration.

To top it off we did the tree top walk as well and I reckon I was more scared here, especially out on the cantilever, swaying in the breeze.  I would highly recommend such an adventure to you all, the trees, ferns, moss and the whole atmosphere is wonderful.

We finished our day with a picnic lunch and a sneaky can of Rose’ at Triplet Falls.  Now before you judge we earned it, climbing 410 steps to reach the top 🍷😜

Our last day and we visited Cape Otway and the lighthouse, complete with stereotype lighthouse weather, cloudy and windy. Before heading back, we visited Apollo Bay and found the best op shop.  It’s the small things that fill the heart.  As it was our last night we finished off with a midnight wander down to the back garden to find the glow worms. They didn’t disappoint.

Stay tuned………..
